1 Student Dead, At Least 7 Injured In Colorado School Shooting, Authorities Say

From ABC News
And here we go again. Another school shooting. Another chance for lawmakers to actually do something more than just offer thoughts and prayers. What do you think.
Just Saying.
Julia Jacobo and Clayton Sandell of ABC News wrote:
One student is dead and at least seven students have been injured in a shooting at a Colorado school on Tuesday, according to authorities.
The deceased male, who has not been identified, was 18 years old.
Two suspects are in custody, Douglas County Undersheriff Holly Nicholson Kluth told reporters during a press conference. Emergency dispatchers received reports that shots were fired at the STEM School in Highlands Ranch just before 2 p.m., according to a tweet by the sheriff's office.
Investigators believe one of the suspects is an adult and the other is a juvenile, and they are both students at the school, Douglas County Sheriff Anthony Spurlock told reporters. They were not previously under the "radar" of law enforcement, Spurlock said, adding that he would not be releasing their identities.
Authorities do not have any information as to whether any of the injured were targeted, Spurlock said.
A struggle may have ensued between the suspects and someone at the school, Kluth said. The male suspects were not injured, Spurlock said.

Colorado school shooting: Just Minutes Away From Columbine, Students Tried To Stop Another Deadly School Shooting
#1875From CNN
This is so crazy. This time, in a rarity, the shooters are female. What will happen now? Again, will our lawmakers do anything prevent another mass shooting? Or is this just another "nothing-to-see-here, let's-send-the-families-of-the-victims-our-thoughts-and-prayers" situation. Only time will tell.
Just Saying.
Christina Maxouris and Sheena Jones of CNN wrote:
The gunshots could still be heard as deputies ran toward the STEM School Highlands Ranch in Colorado.
Two suspects, believed to be students at the school, had made their way inside Tuesday and were shooting inside two classrooms.
Within minutes, an 18-year-old student was dead and eight students were wounded.
It was a scene disturbingly familiar for this suburban Denver community, which just marked the 20th anniversary of the Columbine High School shooting in which two students opened fire on their classmates, killing 12 of them and a teacher.
The Columbine shooting changed the way police respond to active shootings. In 1999, it took 47 minutes after the gunfire erupted for SWAT teams to enter the Littleton school. On Tuesday, authorities were on the scene and inside the STEM school mere minutes after getting the first calls.
Two suspects were taken into custody, one of them identified by the Douglas County Sheriff's Office as 18-year-old Devon Erickson. The other suspect is a juvenile.
"I have to believe that the quick response of the officers that got inside that school helped save lives," Douglas County Sheriff Tony Spurlock said.

A U.S. Marine recruit and other teens rushed one of the shooters at a Colorado school, helping to disarm him, according to police and witnesses. One of the students, Kendrick Castillo, 18, died while lunging at the shooter, according to a classmate at STEM School Highlands Ranch in a Denver suburb. Eight other students were injured in the shooting Tuesday.
"We're going to hear about very heroic things that have taken place at the school," Douglas County Sheriff Tony Spurlock said Wednesday.
Two suspects, both students, are in custody — Devon Erickson, 18, and a juvenile. One of the teens involved in trying to take down one of the shooters was Brendan Bialy, a senior who is enrolled in the Marine Corps Delayed Entry Program, the 8th Marine Corps District confirmed in a statement.
"Brendan's courage and commitment to swiftly ending this tragic incident at the risk of his own safety is admirable and inspiring," the 8th District Marines said.
"We are deeply saddened for the victims, families, friends, and community," the Bialy family said in an emailed statement issued by lawyer Mark L. Bryant.
"We'd like to commend the immediate response of law enforcement and assure all we are strong with the love of our families, community, friends, and every one sending concern, wishes, and strength. We will persevere."
Senior Nui Giasolli told the Today show that she was in class when one of the gunmen, a classmate, entered and suddenly drew a gun.
"That's when Kendrick lunged at him, and he shot Kendrick," Nui said, "giving all of us enough time to get underneath our desks, to get ourselves safe, and to run across the room to escape."
Nui thanked Brendan and the other students who rushed the shooter.
