Detective Recounts Horror of Reading Texts From Massachusetts Teen Urging Her Boyfriend to Kill Himself

The lead detective who investigated the 2014 death by suicide of Massachusetts 18-year-old Conrad Roy II recounted in an interview the disturbing moment he read texts from the teen’s 17-year-old girlfriend Michelle Carter urging Roy to kill himself.

“It was one of those things where you keep reading and it just keeps getting worse. And that’s what kinda put everything in motion,” Fairhaven Police Detective Scott Gordon tells NBC News’ Andrea Canning in an upcoming episode of Dateline: Reckless, which airs Friday at 10 p.m. ET/9 p.m. CT on NBC.

Roy died in his pickup truck from carbon monoxide poisoning on July 13, 2014 — an act Carter had supported and encouraged in text and phone conversations.

This is pathetic and foolish... on the girl's part. If she does get sentenced to any time in prison, she deserves it. Instead of talking to someone to help this young man to keep him from killing himself, she urges him to do so. She might as well have killed him herself by her own hand. It's sick. and she deserves to spend some time behind bars. That's my opinion, and I'm sticking to it.

Now, to plug this because the subject is sensitive and I know there are people who have thought about this at one point or another or know someone who is on the brink.
