Meghan McCain Clashes With View Hosts Over GOP and Race: ‘Do You Think 42 Percent of Americans Are Racist?!’

During a discussion about Rep. Steve King (R-IA) and his comments on white supremacy, Meghan McCain took strong issue with several of her colleagues on The View — as they, in her opinion, tried to paint the entire Republican party with the same brush.

As part of a heated debate, McCain seized on a comment made by Sunny Hostin.

“Will Republicans now step up to the plate with Donald Trump?” Hostin said. “Because he has been using, I think, the border wall as sort of this dog whistle for racism. The government is still shut down. And I think it’s all about ‘Let’s not let all these brown people in.'”

Abby Huntsman asked Hostin if the reported 42 percent of Americans who support the wall are racist.

“I don’t know,” Hostin said.

McCain then jumped in.

“I think this is the problem with identity politics in the country,” McCain said. She added, “When you broad-stroke everyone. All black people think one thing. All Hispanics think one thing. All Republicans think one thing. That’s how we got ourselves into this mess.”

McCain added, “Please don’t paint me, just because I’m for border security, that I somehow am racist in some way or another — ’cause I don’t think that’s fair.”

Then, she turned to Hostin and asked, “Do you think 42 percent of Americans are racist?!”

Hostin replied that she does not know.

Joy Behar began to respond, but McCain said to her, “You did just call 42 percent of the country — there was an implication that they could be racist. That is something that is going to make Abby and I uncomfortable.”

“Check the platform,” Behar said.

McCain replied, “I AM JOHN McCAIN’s DAUGHTER! I AM NOT SOMEONE WHO SITS HERE AND IS OKAY WITH RACISM!”
